8 THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT NELSON MANDELA
1.
His
Forename was ROLIHLAHLA, a Xhosa term
which simply means “ TROUBLEMAKER”
2.
He
was a member of the Students Christian Association, back then at High school
3.
In
April 1941, Mandela worked as a gate keeper at crown mines but was later fired
when the house owner discovered that he was a run away student.
4.
His
first daughter – Makaziwe was born in 1947, and died nine months later of
Meningitis.
5.
Due
to his devotedness in politics, Mandela failed his final year Examinations
three times and he was denied his degree at Witwatrsrand in December 1949.

Mandela
together with a colleague – Oliver Tambo were the first to Open an African-run
law firm in Johannesburg but was later dwindled because their office permit was
being removed under the Group Areas Act.
7.
In
1954, Mandela’s Relationship with Evelyn became strained as he was accused of
adultery. Evidence emerged that he was having affair with the party (ANC)
member Lillian Ngoyi and Secretary Ruth Mompati. Evelyn left Mandela, taking
their Children to live with her brother.
8.
In
1995, after he has assumed office as first black south African president, He
entered into a relationship with a widow – Graca Machel, the wife of former
President Samora Machel. They first met in July 1990 when she was still in
mourning.
